International contest “When the world becomes a canvas”
INTRODUCTION: The 2nd International School Congress and the Lamaçães Schools Cluster have been promoting the use of drinkable, biological inks as an artistic support.
We have already done: ‘When the Street Becomes a Canvas’ and ‘When the Balcony Becomes a Canvas’. At present we have both the experiment of the children and of professional artists all working with the same dyes and materials
Hence, students and the public, in general, welcome this Contest, included in the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) and supported by UNESCO National Board.
PARTICIPANTS: All students at all ages, nationalities and level (primary schools until 12, secondary until 18) can participate by presenting either individual or group works.
TOPIC: The theme and content of the contest must be respected, related to the International Year of the Biodiversity, coordinated by UNESCO National Board and in a partnership with Institute for the Conservation of the Nature and Biodiversity. This contest was launched by Lamaçães Schools Cluster aiming at creating awareness on society and encourage it to protect the environment.
TECHNIQUE: All traditional techniques (drawing, painting, mixed technique, collage) will be accepted in bidimensional format, excluding digital art. All colours used in the works must be biological (juice, ashes, soil).
FORMAT: All the works presented must have the poster format A1 (84,1cm x 59,4 cm) and must be identified as follows: title, author’s name, technique, a description (200 words at the maximum) and email.
RECEPTION OF THE WORKS: 22nd April 2010 will be the deadline. The Art Work should be send by mail (in a proper tube parcel) or by email (resolution of 3MB to 4MB). The winners of the contest will be asked to send their works by conventional mail afterwards, if they haven't already. If the digital images submitted were altered in any form, the author will be elligible for desqualification.
PRIZES: A prize for each level, primary and secondary, will be given. All the other participants will get a certificate.
The first prizes of each level will be published in National Geographic Magazine, will be the cover of Science in School (an UE Edition),and will be featured at the covers of the volumes of the 2nd International School Congress, published by Springer Editors. However the supreme judges, Gonçalo Pereira (National Geographic Portugal); Eleanor Hayes (editor in chief of Science in School) e Petra van Steenbergen (Springer Editors), are reserved the right to assess the quality of the Art work in terms of deciding if there is enough quality to be presented at such renown publications.
All the works will be in exhibition in D. Diogo de Sousa Museum, in Braga.
JURY: The jury will be constituted by 3 people of recognized artistic value. A decision will be taken after a meeting and will be irrefutable and no chance to be submitted to a revision.
LEGAL TERMS: The Author does not lose the rights to his/her work. All of them will be under the custody of Lamaçães School, which has the right to publish them by any means or format but always with its identification (author’s name). The participation in this contest implies the acceptance of these rules.
